March 9th, 2024: Haunted Margaritas & Horseshoes

For today’s mini adventure my best friend and I decided to see what New Hampshire’s state capitol Concord, NH had to offer. Quirky, silly, and full of surprises is the only way I can think to describe the day. When we first arrived we popped into the library for a pitstop and headed to Main Street. After walking around a bit we were hungry for lunch and one of our intended stops wasn’t open yet, so we looked around for a lunch spot. On the side of a brick building we spotted a sign that just read “brewery” with an arrow down an alley and we decided to follow it. After all breweries are bait for millennials. We walked into a small courtyard with no brewery in site, but we followed another arrow down another alley (do or don’t try this at home) and we arrived. Concord Craft Brewing was a charming brewery with a large central bar, good food, and what looks like an excellent patio. I tried the Safe Space IPA which won Best NH-Made Beer in 2021. After lunch we went to check out Concord Antiques, a big antique mall with treasures right downtown. In the midst of exploring I got a call from my library? The Concord Public Library had found my wallet and was trying to return it to me. When we stopped in to retrieve it the library staff were so sweet and helpful!

We had a bit of time so we decided to take a detour outside of town to see the strangest attraction to have pop up as an “activity” on my google maps: Large Pile of Horseshoes, We stopped, we saw, we laughed, and we left. The reviews we found speak for themselves, like “If you haven’t witnessed this stunning monument in person you are not cultured” or “Much more exquisite than described.” I’ll let the rest be a mystery until you see for yourself. Back in Concord, we visited a Mexican restaurant occupying a former police station and county jail that is believed to be haunted. We enjoyed some strawberry basil margaritas while sitting around old jail cells with tables in them. Before heading out and ending our quirky day we stopped into an adorable home goods store, Penumbra, which was filled with plants and art.
