March 2nd, 2024: Garage Brunch, Fun Home & Femme

The destination today was to New Haven, Connecticut, for the main purpose of seeing a show at Yale University, which I’ll cover more in depth. Whenever I travel to a new area, or one I haven’t been to in awhile, I make it a point to find unique and delicious places to eat. This experience was no exception as I was really pleased with the local find: Comacho Garage. This Mexican street food inspired restaurant is located within an old, refurbished car garage and really plays into this history with their decor. It made for a fun dining experience, and then the food and drinks put it over the edge into incredible! We went around brunch time and shared some amazing tacos on their menu, my favorite was the Lamb Barbacoa. We also had the Duck Tambores, which were honestly delicious, and I highly recommend trying one of their brunch cocktails. The city of New Haven itself and Yale campus are quite cute, but we unfortunately saw very little because it was pouring rain and we were dashing between buildings.

The main purpose of our trip to New Haven, however, followed our awesome meal and dodging raindrops. We had scored free tickets to a performance of the musical Fun Home at Yale University, which happens to be one of my partner’s favorite shows. If you have any interest in musical theatre or other live performances I recommend looking into shows at colleges in your area. Often times these shows are offered at a very small cost or even free, like in this case, and they are often open to the public. Fun Home was a beautiful performance and the college students really represented the story so well, in addition to being able to see their passion and excitement bleed through. We wrapped up our time in New Haven and decided to continue our adventure by making a stop at a place on our “must visit list” in Worcester to split the time on the way home.

Did you know that there is a queer bar in Worcester, MA dedicated to providing an inclusive space for queer women and non-binary individuals to gather? These types of spaces have disappeared in many parts of the country over the years, but a few new bars like Femme Bar have opened around the country recently. They have fun themed drinks, a full food menu, and even a little free library! Throughout the week Femme hosts events like board game nights, drag bingo, and live music or dance parties. We felt right at home and recommend visiting.
